Skerryvore
Skerryvore
Back on the remote Scottish island of Tiree, in 2005, the raw, but contemporary trad quartet that formed Skerryvore, could have only dreamed that, over the next decade, they would become a multi-award winning act, which was performing in over 25 countries worldwide, and featured as ambassadors for their country, in an international advertising campaign for ‘Visit Scotland’.
From those traditional roots, the band has developed, both in size and sound, to create a unique fusion of their traditional music and songs, with the urban sounds of rock, pop and funk. With their outstanding musicianship and the mesmerizing voice of award-winning singer-songwriter, Alec Dalglish, Skerryvore has become an international sensation, performing in cities such as Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, Madrid, Munich and New York. The band’s high-energy shows have also featured at many premier festivals, both at home and abroad, including:
Scotland: T in the Park, Belladrum, Wickerman and Celtic Connections
International: Tonder Festival (Denmark), Lorient Interceltique (France), Ryder Cup (Louisville), Milwaukee Irish Fest and Central Park NY (USA).
2015 marked the 10th Anniversary of Skerryvore, which included a special open-air concert at Mossfield Stadium, Oban. After the event sold out (3000 tickets in 90 minutes), the capacity was doubled and attracted 6000 people from all around the world. The success of the concert has led to the creation of a new event in the town, Oban Live (http://www.obanlive.com). The band also released the song, Happy to be Home, with legendary Irish musician, Sharon Shannon, which topped the iTunes World Music Charts in May, 2015.
2016 began with sold out show at the internationally acclaimed Celtic Connections, alongside Irish super-group, We Banjos 3. This was followed with tours and performances in England, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, and the band’s longest US tour to date.
